Add a Handling Fee to a Category

Step by step: add a handling fee on a product category.

Overview

This article walks through adding a handling fee to a category. Handling fees are configured per category and are added on top of other shipping costs. For the calculation methods and how fees combine, see [Handling Fees].

Steps

  1. 1

In the Foxy admin, open the Categories section.

  2. 2

Select the category you want to configure.

  3. 3

In Category details, scroll to Handling Fees and Discounts.

  4. 4

Set Handling fee type to one of:

    • No handling fee — no fee applied.

    • Flat fee per shipment — a single fee when the cart contains products from this category.

    • Flat fee per product — a fee multiplied by the quantity of items from this category.

    • Flat fee per shipment + % of price — a flat fee plus a percentage of the category's item price.

    • Flat fee per shipment or % of price, whichever is greater — Foxy applies the higher of the two.

  5. 5

Enter the Handling fee amount (the flat portion).

  6. 6

If you chose a percentage based type, enter the Percentage of price.

  7. 7

Save the category (the checkmark button at the top).

Note

Handling fees do not apply to categories set to "no shipping." They combine with live rates and flat rates from other categories and are folded into the total shipping cost shown at checkout (not displayed as a separate line item).

Test it

Add a product from this category to your cart and proceed to checkout. The handling fee should be included in the shipping total.
