Restrict credit card types on your checkout

How to block specific credit card types, such as American Express, from being entered on your checkout.

Restricting credit card types prevents customers from entering certain card numbers on your checkout — commonly used to block American Express when a payment gateway doesn’t support it.

Steps

    Go to the Foxy admin.

    Go to Settings > Payments.

  3. 3

    In the Supported cards section, enable/disable cards as needed.

Notes

  • This setting only affects the checkout’s own validation — it doesn’t change what your payment gateway accepts or rejects.

  • If a restricted card type is entered, the customer sees a JavaScript validation error, not a gateway decline.

  • If your gateway already rejects a card type on its own, this setting isn’t required, but it can stop customers from hitting a gateway-level decline in the first place.
