How download links are secured
How Foxy protects digital product files and controls how long download links remain active after purchase.
This article covers how Foxy secures digital product files and how you can configure download link expiry.
How files are stored
Your digital product files are stored in a location that is inaccessible to web users. The only way a customer can download a file is through a unique link generated by Foxy for their specific transaction.
Configuring link expiry
Download links can be configured to expire in two ways, which can be used independently or together:
Maximum downloads. The link allows the file to be downloaded up to a set number of times. Once the limit is reached, the link expires and the customer sees an expiration message instead of a download.
Maximum hours. The link expires after a set number of hours from the time of purchase, regardless of how many times the file has been downloaded.
For example, if maximum downloads is set to 1000 and maximum hours is set to 24, the link will expire after 24 hours even if the file has only been downloaded once.
Notes
Expiry settings are configured per product category in the Foxy admin.
If a customer needs to download a file after their link has expired, you can reset their download count. See Reset a customer’s download count for details.
