Flat Rates Overview

Charge a fixed shipping amount per product category.

Overview

Flat rate shipping lets you set a fixed shipping cost for a product category. Unlike live rates (which are configured store wide), flat rates are configured directly on each category. The flat rate is applied once per category in the cart, regardless of how many products from that category the customer has added.

How to set it up

In your Foxy admin, navigate to the category you want to configure. Set the delivery type to "Flat rate" and enter the flat rate amount. That's it. When a customer has products from that category in their cart, the flat rate will be added to the shipping total.

How flat rates combine with other shipping

If a cart contains products from multiple categories, each with different shipping types, all costs are combined. A flat rate category's fee is added on top of any live rates from other categories. For example, if one category returns a $12.50 USPS Priority rate and another category has a $5.00 flat rate, the customer sees $17.50 for that shipping option.

Flat rates do not appear as a separate line item to the customer. They're folded into the combined shipping total.

When to use flat rate vs other options

Flat rate works well when shipping cost doesn't depend on weight, destination, or quantity (for example, a category of small accessories that always ships in the same envelope). If you need shipping costs to vary by weight, destination, or cart contents, consider live rates or custom shipping code instead.
