Foxy vs Shopify: which one actually fits your store?
Shopify is an all-in-one platform you build your store on. Foxy is a checkout you add to a site you build with your choice of CMS, framework or platform. That one difference decides almost everything below — so this isn't about which is "better," it's about flexibility and small tech vs. large platform ecosystem.
Choices
Choose Foxy when
You've already built a site you like — on Webflow, Framer, WordPress, or any popular CMS/framework (Strapi, Drupal, Astro, Hugo, Sanity, etc.) — and want to add a cart, subscriptions, or physical or digital products (or a mix of both) without rebuilding it on someone else's platform.
Choose Shopify when
You want a complete store handed to you — hosting, themes, admin, POS, inventory, and the biggest app ecosystem — and you're happy to trade design freedom for a platform that does the rest for you.
What each one is
Foxy
A hosted cart and checkout you add to any existing website with a link, button, or form. It doesn't replace your site — it powers the buying on it. Subscriptions, digital goods, and donations are built in, with 100+ payment gateways run through your own merchant accounts. Foxy is not a merchant of record: you keep your own gateway relationships.
From $35/moShopify
A hosted, all-in-one commerce platform. You build your store inside Shopify using its themes and admin; it handles hosting, checkout, inventory, and POS, with a 4,000+ app marketplace to extend it.
From $39/moWhen each is the right call
When Foxy is the right call
- Your site already lives on Webflow, Framer, Wix, Squarespace, or a static stack — and you want to keep it exactly as designed.
- You want native subscriptions or recurring donations without stacking third-party apps.
- You want to keep your own payment gateways and customer relationships (100+ gateways supported).
- You're a developer or agency who wants an API-first checkout — webhooks, SSO, custom logic — wired into a bespoke build.
When Shopify is the right call
- You're starting from scratch and want a store handed to you — hosting, themes, and admin in one place.
- You run a larger catalog with inventory, shipping, and fulfillment to manage.
- You want in-person selling (POS) and omnichannel out of the box.
- You want the largest app marketplace to extend the store over time.

Where Shopify is genuinely the better tool
If you don't already have a site you're attached to, or you need a full retail operation — big catalog, inventory, POS, fulfillment, and a deep app ecosystem — Shopify is likely the simpler path, and Foxy isn't trying to be that. Foxy's whole reason to exist is keeping the site you built and adding commerce to it. If replatforming onto Shopify is something you'd happily do, do it.
