Retry a failed subscription payment

How to manually retry a failed subscription payment on behalf of a customer using Unified Order Entry in the Foxy admin.

If a subscription failed to process and you want to reattempt it manually on behalf of a customer, you can do this using Unified Order Entry (UOE) in your Foxy admin.

Before you start

You’ll need Unified Order Entry enabled on your store. To enable it:

  1. 1

Go to Advanced Settings in your Foxy admin

  2. 2

Enable Unified Order Entry and set a secure password if you haven’t already

Steps

  1. 1

Go to Subscriptions in your Foxy admin and find the subscription you want to retry

  2. 2

Expand the subscription and find the Sub Token URL link. Control+click (or Command+click on Mac) to open it in a new tab

  3. 3

The cart will load with the subscription’s products and past due amount present

  4. 4

    Proceed to checkout

  5. 5

The customer’s email address will be pre-filled. Enter the UOE password to auto-populate their billing, shipping, and payment information

  6. 6

Review the details and complete the transaction

If the payment succeeds, the customer will receive an email receipt and the past due amount will be cleared. If it fails, you will see the error message explaining why.

Notes

  • For help interpreting gateway error messages, see the error log documentation.

  • To set up automatic retries instead of retrying manually, see Set up automatic payment retries.

  • PayPal Express (non-Reference Transactions) does not support subscription modification via sub_token. Foxy strongly recommends using the Reference Transaction option for PayPal Express Checkout.
