G2 Reviews: Why They Matter & How to List Your Business

We've never been a super salesy company and don't spend much (if any) on advertising/marketing. So like many companies, we depend on word of mouth referrals. If you offer a great product/service, backed by friendly support, your users will happily spread the word.

An easy way to help your users spread the word is via reviews, specifically on a website called G2.

What is G2?

G2 (formerly G2 Crowd) is the leading peer-to-peer review site and marketplace for business software and services. Think of it as the "Yelp" or "TripAdvisor" for business technology.

Users can browse technologies (ie: shopping carts) to learn about each solution, read authentic reviews, compare options, and more.

Why are G2 reviews important?

Given G2's prominence as the leading website for software reviews, it's crucial for any tech business to be listed and gather reviews from its users.

The same goes for Foxy. Even though we've taken a unique approach to ecommerce, we want to be part of the conversation when someone is comparing shopping cart options.

Does it cost to list my business on G2?

It's 100% free to list your business on G2. That said, they offer paid plans that give you more exposure, prominence in business comparison lists, reporting, and more.

We've looked into G2's paid options but haven't proceeded with any of them. If you're on (or were previously on) one of their paid plans, we'd love to hear about your experience. Please let us know.

How do I list my business on G2?

Adding your business (product or service) to G2 involves a few key steps to ensure it's properly listed and can start gathering reviews. Here's a breakdown of the process:

Check if Your Business is Already Listed:

  • Before submitting a new listing, do a quick search on G2 to make sure your product or company isn't already listed under a different name or an older version. G2 only allows one profile per vendor for services.

  • If your company has rebranded or you want an existing product to be considered for another category, contact G2 support directly.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • G2 primarily lists business-to-business (B2B) products and services. They generally do not list business-to-consumer (B2C) products.

  • Your product should not be an extension or integration of an already existing product.

  • Products in alpha or beta stages of development are typically not accepted.

Submit a New Product or Service Request:

  • Go to the G2 product submission page (you'll usually need to be logged in to your G2 account).

  • Fill out the request form with accurate information about your product or service. This will include details like: product/company name (must match the actual name, no marketing language), description, website, relevant categories, and general contact information.

  • Once you submit the form, your product or service will be "conditionally approved." This means the G2 research team will verify its eligibility and ensure it's placed in the correct categories. This verification process usually takes 3-5 business days.

  • You'll receive email updates from G2 regarding the status of your submission.

Claim Your G2 Profile:

  • Once your profile is live on G2, navigate to it and claim your listing. This is crucial to manage and update your profile.

  • After submitting your claim request, G2's team will review it for final approval, usually within 1-3 business days.

Optimize Your Profile and Gather Reviews:

  • Complete your profile: Add detailed company and product information, screenshots, videos, and anything else that helps buyers understand your offerings.

  • Encourage reviews: G2 thrives on authentic user reviews. Encourage your satisfied customers to leave reviews on your profile. The more reviews you have, the more credible and visible your listing will be. A minimum of 10 reviews is often needed to appear on G2's "Grids".

  • Respond to reviews: Engage with both positive and negative reviews to show you value customer feedback.

  • Utilize G2's features: Once your profile is established, you can leverage G2's analytics, buyer intent data (if you upgrade to a paid plan), and content marketing tools to further your business goals.
